Fresh Fish

Zack caught this one yesterday at dusk....goes with cusk I guess. Fishing has been pretty good here. Plenty of action, no trophies yet. This one filleted and chunk-ed up, then deep fried, will taste just like scallops if not better.

Fishing Report

Not much to report, over 25 fisherman this past weekend, 2 days fishing with not much action. One group has been coming up for 30+ years and said it was very slow all week. Couple of 20-24" catches, mostly shorts. I guess that's why it's called fishing and not catching. I believe everyone had a great time anyway, it's about the people and not the fish, and we had some great people here last week and weekend. Lot of fun.

Ice fishing Report

Had a group in fishing this weekend and they pretty much summed up what we've been getting all winter. The fishing is great from 9:00am to 1:00pm nothing notable before before or after that. Good salmon action. They noted the longer, 18" plus seemed to be very yellowish in color and the smalls are dark and silver, like you'd expect. Not sure what that is due to. I'll have to do some checking around on that. If your looking for cusk, we have had very good catch on those during the day. Some good sizes too, 28-39" so far. We don't bother with the smaller ones. Great chowder and even better chunk ed and deep fried! Fresh water scallops!

Ice fishing Report

Had several parties fishing this weekend and the consensus was that the best fishing was around around 7:00 am to 11:00 am. Plenty of action all packed in 4 hours then just perch and cusk for the rest of the day. Most salmon averaged 16-17" had two in the 20" range. There where plenty of Salmon under 16" also. That'll be good for next year! Seems that as the days get longer the fish get more active.

We had deep fried cusk last night with supper, fantastic!

Ice fishing on Chesuncook Lake

Last weekend things finally started to pick up. Plenty of salmon action and more than our fare share of cusks. We tossed back anything under 24". The largest cusk keeper was 27", 6 pounds....mmmmm! (fresh water scallops) Right during the middle of the day. We have plenty of ice fisherman in this weekend, so we should have some good result to post Sunday.

Keep on Fish'n!

Ice fishing on Chesuncook Lake

Still pretty quiet in this area. We have had an ice shack set up off Gero island sine January 1. Not a lot of action, but it's picking up. My oldest boy pulled out a 18" salmon, and a 25" cusk. My other sons weren't so lucky. They said there was plenty of action, just no keepers. "That's all that matters" I told them, keep fishin, you'll get em sooner or later.

They have dubbed the ice shack the "sauna". They keep a pot of boiling water on the heater all the time. From the outside you can see the steam shooting out of every nook and cranny, looks likes a big presure cooker. At -0 deg. it's a nice place to hang out.

We'll keep you posted.
